Group walks are 2.5-3 hours. The fee for group walks depend on how many people will be joining. This will be discussed and confirmed at the time of booking. If there is a special meaning or celebratory occasion, it can be incorporated into the walk.
Individual walks are $150 and are 1.5-2 hours. If there is something specific you are working with in your life, I welcome you to share with me so that I can provide support and create opportunities for you to process and heal.
Forest Bathing is based on the Japanese practice of Shinrin-yoku. It can be described as a healing process that takes place by way of opening yourself to developing, and deepening a connection and relationship with the forest. It is spending time in nature with the intention to open our hearts and interact and communicate with all of our senses. This way of engaging with the land, creates and nurtures a sacred union with nature. It is this tender and loving union that becomes a field of healing and a source of well-being. Forest Bathing is simply that - bathing in the atmosphere of the forest. This can also be experienced at a beach, in a meadow, and even a desert.
There is a vast and long history of humans sharing a sacred connection with nature. The Buddha found enlightenment while meditating under the Bodhi tree. For thousands of years Native and Indigenous people have partnered with the land in healing, guidance, and ceremony. Many ancient cultures recognized the forces of nature as Gods and Goddesses. Our deepest roots are embedded in the land and the elements of the earth. Nature is depicted as many elements and beings, be it a tree, a river, a fern, an animal, or a stone. Nature is both our mother and our home. So, it makes sense that we have an innate connection and sense of calm when we spend time with the land. We are nature.
Forest Bathing walks begin with a brief introduction and an opportunity for guests to ask questions. We'll then slow down and "shake off the road dust" by moving into our senses with a nature-inspired mindfulness practice. Throughout our walk, which may actually be more of a 'going out and returning back" type experience, you will be offered unique opportunities, called “invitations”, to mindfully interact with the land. Invitations encourage presence, wonder, tranquility, and a sense of connection with nature. There will be opportunities for individuals to share and reflect with one another throughout the walk, at whatever your comfort level is. Sometimes sharing is simply silence or a quiet smile. Walks typically conclude with a ceremonial closing of sharing "forest tea" brewed from local ethically-foraged plants from the trail, which guests may choose to enjoy or offer back to the land. This is not a hike or a brisk walk. You can expect to move slower than you would normally as we will cover no more than 1/2-2 miles over the course of 2 - 3 hours. Forest Bathing walks take place at local natural areas on Whidbey Island.
If attending a walk in person is not possible, you may consider a “remotely-guided” walk which can be experienced from any location. This can take place in a space as little as 50 square feet and may take place in a backyard or other natural area. Forest Bathing can even be adapted to be experienced from indoors for all you need is your imagination and a few elements of the Earth. Virtual walks require participants to have a cell phone, and good internet connection.
