Specialization & Approach to Therapy

I specialize in working with individuals who are motivated to heal and move from a place of being stuck or frozen, to a place of feeling peace, joy and contentment. Playing an active role in therapy is vital to making progress and experiencing the positive effects of therapy. Our work will consist of building a trusting relationship, developing skills and practices that help regulate the nervous system and bring calm into your day-to-day life. Together we will explore your life experiences so we can understand how they impact your thoughts and emotions, your relationships, and beliefs about yourself and your world. We will begin to deconstruct unhealthy and toxic patterns and replace them with ones that support your True Self and the life you desire and deserve. I also enjoy working with young people learn and discover who they are, why they think and feel the way they do, and learning to feel connected to themselves and align with a path that feels true to them.

While I don't believe labeling people is helpful, I understand that a diagnosis can be helpful in explaining a condition or set of symptoms, and can make us feel less alone. It is also necessary for insurance billing and reimbursement.

Conditions I Treat:

- Anxiety

- Complex Trauma or C-PTSD

- Depression

- ADHD

- Bipolar

- Relational Distress/Difficulty

- Trust Issues with Self or Others

- Life Transitions (College/Career/Separation/Divorce, Relocation)

- LGBTQ+ Related Issues

- Spiritual Stagnation or Lack

Working from an integrative approach to therapy, I apply a variety of techniques stemming from Internal Family Systems (IFS)/Parts Work, EMDR-Informed practices, Somatic practices, Attachment Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindful Self-Compassion, Polyvagal Theory, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Therapeutic Yoga and Breathwork, and Ecotherapy.  Working closely with individuals on their path toward healing, growth, and fulfillment is an honor and something I take very seriously.

Being outdoors is a large part of the work I do and something I am very passionate about.  As an Ecotherapist, I am deeply aware of the gifts and healing powers nature provides. In nature, we are free from the judgement, shame, and distractions of the human world. Nature gives us a safe space to explore emotions, process trauma, and improve clarity and cognition. I believe nature has the intuitive sense of what we need.

How We Meet

Telehealth and virtual therapy

Telehealth

I meet with clients via telehealth which allows for greater flexibility with scheduling, location, and comfort.  My clients enjoy the convenience of being able to meet with me from the privacy of their home, car, or on a walk. I strive to make telehealth meetings just as natural, engaging and authentic as in-person meetings. I encourage my clients to choose a space that is private, comfortable, and has good wifi/internet service. With advances in technology, there are numerous places to meet from! You choose what feels good to you.

Walk and talk therapy

Eco-Telehealth

Most people think telehealth means in front of a screen with a view of of your therapist and their office. Well, this a refreshing and unique way to experience telehealth! I offer "walk and talk" sessions where we can meet over phone and take in the beauty of our own surroundings. We might walk for a bit and then find a peaceful place to sit. This is a wonderful way to experience telehealth and also take in the vast benefits of being in nature!

As an Ecotherapist, I enjoy partnering with nature to bring clients closer to themselves and the more-than-human-world. I may guide you through a mindfulness practice where you interact with nature through your senses, or lead you through a nature-inspired meditation leaving you feeling relaxed and grounded.

Ecotherapy on Whidbey Island

I also offer ecotherapy or "walk and talk" sessions at local parks, trails, and natural areas in Coupeville on Whidbey Island. We might walk a little, find a peaceful place to sit, or take moments to pause and take in our surroundings as we move along an easy trail. I have a handful of local trails I meet clients at in Coupeville that are easy and accessible and provide all the healing benefits of nature. We are so fortunate to have evergreen trees, saltwater, sand and abundant wildlife on this island. Let's take therapy outdoors and soak up the natural beauty and healing benefits of nature.
